Adding brushes to Affinity Photo

Adding new brushes into Affinity Photo

Affinity Photo will accept lots of Photoshop ® 'style' brushes out there on the Internet.

It probably pays to add a brushes directory to affinity for storage of such brushes. Navigate to the Affinity photo directory and create a new folder and rename it brushes

Now browse the internet for brushes to download - you will be amazed how many are out there and free. I visited https://www.brusheezy.com/ for some great ones. They only ask that you add a credit to any commercial or web work (Photoshop brushes by Brusheezy! )

I am choosing some fire brushes

Simply click the download link to download the brushes to your download folder.

Now open Affinity Photo

From the view menu select studio and check that the brushes panel is switched on (if not click it to open the panel).

Look for the panel on your screen and select it to show your current brushes.
Now click on the menu button to the right of the brushes panel and select import brushes

Browse for the brushes file (ABR) that you have downloaded and click Open

The brushes will be imported ready for use in Affinity Photo

The choice of brushes is a menu below the title of the brushes panel

When you use any custom brushes more tools are available for each brush by clicking on the option panel (looks like a small book page) to the right of the brushes drop-down menu. Here there are features such as shape, size, accumulation and rotation to make the use of the brush natural when painting. You can keep this panel open whilst painting.
