Making a POW! sign with Word and other office apps

In this tutorial we will use type and shapes to make a zappy impact on an office document. It is a demonstration of how to build up an image using layers. The same technique is used in desktop publishing, presentation graphics and web design everywhere.

First we will need a great font to use for the POW! I have used AR Carter a great font that you can download here. (Thank you Fontzone for AR CARTER free)

Follow the link to Fontzone https://fontzone.net/font-details/ar-carter and click the download icon
You will be asked to verify you are not a robot. Check the box and then click/tap download. You may be asked to click another link afterwards, it may seem like a lot of clicking but don't worry. ARCARTER will download. If you are asked to open/save/run tap/click save.

Open Word and start a new document.

From the insert menu select the shapes menu and pick a shape. I chose an explosion shape. I then added a glow effect to the background. Next I duplicated the shape ( copy and paste) and recoloured the top copy to make a 3D type effect. I have my background for the POW effect

Insert a text box and type POW! into it. Select all the text and from the font section type AR into the font box. AR Carter should fill in the rest for you. Press Enter to choose AR Carter for the text. Now add a glow to the text and you are nearly there.
Rotate the text and remove the border and fill for the text box.
Holding down the CTRL key select the text and the two shapes and from the format menu that has appeared choose Group to make the whole thing into and object. You can move this about, resize and copy and paste it to any other office application like excel or PowerPoint.
You could make a copy from a screenshot to put in OneNote for later use.
